Everyone has some pockets of fat that simply do not respond to diet or exercise. This is most common in the abdomen, upper arms, buttocks, hips, thighs, lower legs, chest, chin and neck. If you have this problem, then we have the solution- Liposucton.Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat deposits to sculpt your body to desired shape.

Liposuction is not a standard weight loss procedure. It is used to reduce the problematic unresponsive deposits of fat cells in specific areas. If you have a healthy body and maintain a stable weight, then you are an ideal candidate for liposuction of fat from the problem areas. Liposuction is not recommended if you have other health issues.

Science behind Liposuction

A weight gain is caused by increase in the size and volume of fat cells. When you follow a weight loss programme, some parts of your body may not respond as well as the others. Or you may not be obese, but still have excessive fat deposits in some areas. During liposuction, the fat cells are removed. You will notice the change in shape and weight as soon as the swelling goes down within a week and you will see the desired contour change gradually over a few months as the portion takes on a leaner look. As long as you do not gain weight again, the result is permanent.

If your skin is elastic and has a good tone, then it will appear smooth. If your skin lacks elasticity then it may sag.

The procedure is performed under a local or general anaesthesia depending on the area that has to be contoured and the amount of fat that has to be removed.

Types of Liposuction surgeries offered:

A variety of liposuction techniques are available and we offer the best range of techniques. The four most common techniques that provide the desired results are:

Traditional Liposuction

In this method, medicated saline solution is injected into the area that needs to be corrected. Small incisions are made on the skin and a hollow tube called cannula is inserted through the incision. The cannula is manipulated manually to break up fat cells which are then suctioned out of the body. Once the desired amount of fat cells is removed, the cannula is extracted and the incisions sutured closed or closed with a constrictive bandage.

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL)

This is similar to traditional liposuction. The cannula is inserted through a small incision, but it is not manually operated. It vibrates automatically and this enables easy removal of tough fat deposits. It is more precise, less painful and causes less swelling. This is generally used when large pockets of fat have to be removed or if you have already had a liposuction procedure.

Ultrasound-assisted Liposution (UAL)

During this procedure a metal rod is inserted into the incision. This rod emits ultrasonic energy under the skin. This energy ruptures fat-cells and breaks them down. The broken down fat cells are suctioned out to produce the desired contour change. Advanced versions of UAL improve skin contouring and reduce the risk of infections.

Laser-assisted liposution (LAL)

During LAL a laser fiber is inserted through a small incision. The high-intensity laser energy it emits into the tissue breaks down and emulsifies fat which is then suctioned off though a cannula.

The procedure

You may require a general of local anaesthesia depending on the area of surgery and the amount of fact to be removed. If you are under local anaesthesia and still feel pain during procedure, inform your surgeon. The medication will be adjusted accordingly. The procedure may last several hours depending on the extent of fat to be removed.

You will have to spend a few hours in the recovery room after the procedure. Sometimes you may be have stay in the hospital overnight. You will need someone to stay with you and take you home.

Recovery

  • After the procedure you will experience some pain, swelling and bruising. This is normal.
  • Take the medications for pain relief and antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection prescribed by your surgeon.
  • You may need temporary drains in the incisions to drain out any fluid that collect after surgery.
  • You will have to wear compression garments for a few weeks to reduce swelling.
  • You can return to work within a few days and return to normal activities in few weeks.

Results

Initially there will be swelling, pain and soreness.

  • There may be some contour irregularities which will even out as the remaining fat settles down.
  • Generally the swelling will subside within a few weeks and the treated area will look leaner.
  • The complete transformation will take place over the next few months.
  • The skin may not be as firm as before.
  • The new contour will be long lasting, nearly permanent, if you maintain your weight.
  • If you gain weight, the distribution of fat may not be the same as before.
